Soap Nuts for Laundry

How much more natural can a person get? Well, this is the most non-toxic laundry cleaner I’ve seen. I haven’t given it a try yet, but it’s worth a try.

If a person lived in the right zone, they could grow their own (need zone 9 or higher I believe).

  1. Don’t do it! I thought they would be fantastic too, but the smell. It indescribable other than the words ‘not nice’. I thought I could grow my own tree, and we’d have free soap πŸ™‚ great in theory until they arrived. Yes they foam, yes you feel cleaner, but that smell…. most unpleasant.

    • Thanks for the info. I’ve yet to try them myself. Now I’m curious about it! I think for people who have serious health issues and can’t be exposed to any chemicals, this might be their only option.

      • Yes I hear you (as someone who is highly allergic to so many things for skin) if you want to give a plant a go I recommend Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) πŸ™‚

I have grown it and used in the past – great, free soap if you can grow your own plant, need to grow quite a big one for daily soaping needs. Found it not quite strong enough to clean my hair or take off 50+ sunscreen (I live in the tropics).

Here’s the recipe and a bit about growing it:

No weird smell to it, just a little ‘leafy’ πŸ™‚

        Best of luck!!

PS if this doesn’t work/cant source it I use great – they have coconut extracts for the ‘foaming’ mixed with herbal teas to create a body wash (including hair – no need for conditioner).
